An exhibition of five women with the title “Five Women Exhibit” will open at Tehnis Dromena Gallery, 53 Arch. Kyprianou Street, Strovolos, Nicosia on Monday 5th May at 7.30pm. Nitsa Hadjigeorgiou, Mary Plant, Maria Papacharalambous, Maria Ioannou and Myrto Makridou will participate in the above exhibition.
Nitsa Xadjigeorgiou
She was born in Famagusta, 1950. She studied Painting at the Higher School of Fine Arts Athens (1969-1974), in the workshop of Yiannis Moralis on scholarship by the Foundation of State Scholarships. She also studied Art of portable icons and Fresco Painting in the workshop of Xinopoulos (classes of the Higher School of Fine Arts), and attended Ceramic and Engraving classes. She worked as an Art teacher in Secondary Schools. Since 2012 she has been the President of EKATE.
Maria Papacharalambous
She was born in Nicosia in 1964. She studied Painting from 1984 to 1991 at the Athens School of Fine Arts, the Facultad de Bellas Artes and at the Museo Internacional de Electrografia in Spain from 1991-1993 .She held solo exhibitions and represented Cyprus and Greece in various European and international plastic Art meetings and festivals , biennale, triennale in the fields of painting, photography, printmaking , the video art and video animation, film, sculpture, installation in the area of architecture and visual poetry, after selection of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and other cultural institutions in Cyprus and abroad. She participated / conducted plastic Art / presentations and activities, online work, geopolitical art, publishing, international work. She organized symposia , two-day seminars, conferences, lectures. She worked with various theatre groups and the Cyprus Theatre Organisation as a scene and costume designer . She made 27 short films , art videos and documentaries . In 2000 she was co-founder of the Foundation ARTos, in 2006 of ResArt, Nicosia and in 2008 of the microArtos in Madrid (as social sculptor) . The contemporary art and science centers are dedicated to research, creation and philosophy of "well-being". In 2011 she created the socio - artistic movement «Reflections - Αναστοχασμοί " .
Mary Plant
Mary Plant was born in Famagusta . She studied Painting at the School of Fine Arts Chelsea, London ( 1976-1981 ). She graduated in 1981 with MA She held exhibitions in England, Cyprus, Ireland, France, Germany, Russia, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Spain and the Netherlands . References to her work appeared in Art Monthly, Artists News Letter, Time Out, Area revue Paris, Kultur Magazin Kassel, Phileleftheros, Politis, Cyprus Mail, Cyprus Weekly , etc. Her works are found in many Art Galleries including AG. Leventis institution, the Bank of Cyprus ( London ), the Cultural Service of Cyprus, the Laiki Bank. She was awarded the Morland Lewis Scholarship, GLA grant, BOC London award. Since 2007 she has been receiving annual honorary subsidies from the Cultural Services of Cyprus .
Maria Ioannou
She was born in Nicosia in 1975. She graduated from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki focusing on Painting taught by A. Theofylaktopoulos. She took printmaking classes under the supervision of with teachers Yiannadakis and Sahinis, and Photography courses under the supervision of the teacher Katsangelos. She participated in solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad receiving important distinctions. She has been living and working in Cyprus since 2002.
Myrto Makridou
Myrto was born in 1975 in Limassol. She studied Painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1997-2003. She went to the University of Central England Birmingham, UK with BA. She presented her personal work in Cyprus in 2004 and has taken part in many group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad.
