Curriculum Vitae:
Erro
ERRO is an Icelandic artist born in 1932 in Ólafsvík, in the North-West of Iceland. Admitted in the Fine Arts School of Reykjavik in September 1949, he graduated and became an Art professor in 1951. In 1952, he went to Norway where he studied engraving, fresco and painting at the Academy of Oslo. His first personal exhibition took place in 1955 in Florence, at the Galleria SantaTrinità. In 1958, he settled down in Paris where his work has been revealed in the context of the "Figuration Narrative" (Arroyo, Adami, Klasen, Rancillac, Monory…). During his travels throughout the world, ERRO collects pictures (advertisings, news photos, comics, posters, politics documents) which are hissource of inspiration. He chooses them, assemblies them, accumulates them, at his own pleasure, always with humour, sometimes with anxiety and violence, on canvases in order to create paintings which are both made for reading and seeing. In some of his compositions, he skilfully inserts figures of Ingres' canvases, Delacroix, Léger or Picasso, and these figures are cohabiting with cinema stars, revolutionary or bloodthirsty politicians and comic strips heroes. He often works in series : Chinese, political, erotic cycles. He accumulates a huge quantity of material, and when he has collected a lot of images regarding a same topic, he can start a series. Then the process consists in selecting pictures, "marrying" them to make collages and finally create a canvas." In June 2001, the Erro Collection of the Reykjavík City is presented to the general public in its new surroundings in Hafnbarhúsid during a great retrospective. A lot of exhibitions are organized both in France and abroad. Several retrospectives were dedicated : in 1985, in the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and in 1999 in the National Gallery of the Jeu de Paume. In 2005, The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca, and the Mannheimer Kunstverein, presented a retrospective (1958-2004) and then in 2006, the IVAM in Valence and Alcala 31 in Madrid. HE DENOUNCED AGAIN AND AGAIN THE ABERRATIONS OF OUR SOCIETY : DRIVEN CONSUMPTION, MERCANTILE EROTICISM, REVOLUTIONS, HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION, AMERICANIZATION OF LIFE.
Razes Angelos
He was born in Thessaloniki in 1943. He studied painting and printmaking at ASFA (1968-1973) taught by N. Nicholas K. Grammatopoulos. Between 1973-1980 he lived in Lesvos, where he focused on hagiography, and Troyes, France, where he studied Western Art. The painting is in line with realism and characterized by purity of expressive means, naturalness and immediacy of description. He draws inspiration from experiential situations and the his own environment. Still life’s and everyday utensils objects, amberjacks wreaths, votive, faded photos, flowers, fruits, old lace, dolls, toys, etc, arranged in sparse but calculated order on the floor of the workshop, are the subject of his works, which attaches to rigorous, frontal composition, attention to details and textures, accurate design and subtle tonal gradations of mainly hot colors. Gradually he imposes a metaphysical atmosphere with symbolic implications, intensified by the nostalgic mood, a sense of mental calm, poetic use of light, and the stillness of the figures.
He has presented his work in solo exhibitions («Melusine», Troyes, France, 1975 Stadttheater, Darmstad, Germany, 1975 "Kochlias", Thessaloniki, 1981; "Contemporary Printmaking," 1982 "Ariadne", Heraklion, 1987 «Albet le "Brussels, 1987.1993" Art Hall "1990,1995-" Eirmos "Thessaloniki 1991" Art Gallery Heraklion ", Heraklion, 1992 Art Athina-« Wind », 1992,1996« Gloria », Nicosia, 1994 "Epsilon" Thessaloniki 1995 "Expression", 1995.1999, etc.) and has taken part in group (Goethe Institute, Thessaloniki, 1969 "Art", Thessaloniki, 1970 "Wind," 1982, 1986 "Skoufas" 1987 - "Triangle", 1988, 1998 The Artists Observer "Observer", Thessaloniki, 1990 Visual Formalities of Time, "Aenaon" 1992 The "metaphysical" in Modern Painting, "Aenaon", 1996, etc.).
